Le thème était audacieux : « Les relations judéo-québécoises : identités et perceptions mutuelles ». Ce colloque, tenu le 25 mars 1999 à Montréal, a connu un vif succès. Il a permis de lever un tant soit peu le voile sur les rapports entre les Juifs et les Canadiens français dans la société québécoise et débranler plusieurs stéréotypes.Il est inhabituel de mettre en parallèle lhistoire de la communauté juive montréalaise et celle des Canadiens français. Cependant, ces deux groupes sociaux partagent une réalité qui rend la démarche intéressante. Chacun constitue une minorité au Canada et en Amérique dont les membres doivent assurer la survivance. Les textes présentés dans ce livre attirent davantage lattention sur la réalité juive, moins connue que celle des Canadiens français. Les auteurs explorent, outre les rapports judéo-québécois, les liens quentretiennent les Juifs entre eux ainsi quavec les différents groupes culturels du Québec. Peu à peu, le lecteur verra se tisser une trame culturelle dune richesse souvent insoupçonnée.
